RUBUS Old Vive Zinfandel, Lodi 2012

Produced in the heart of Lodi AVA.

From the http://www.kysela.com/usa/rubus.htm website: 98% Zinfandel + 2% Cabernet Sauvignon
Bottled after aging in French and American oak for 9 months.
Ruby red in color, with red fruit, raspberry, and spice on the nose. This wine is medium in body, with notes of ripe cherry, cedar box, cinnamon, anise, black pepper, and hint of smoke on the palate. It has a long, silky finish.

This was a very fruity rich wine, quite smooth and excellent with the pork roast we enjoyed it with.

Gen 5 2011 Old Vine Zin from Lodi

We bought this one for about $10 locally and tried it tonight.  Reportedly the blend is (86% Zinfandel, 12% Petite Sirah, 2% Tannat).  We found it very pleasing to the eye--dark in color, a little on the thin side, without legs.  The flavor was simple, fruit-forward with a delicious berry flavor, perfect with our herbed pork roast tonight.  We'll definitely keep this on our list of good-with-dinner old vine zins.
